Meaning? | | Message: | I've got one conure who whenever I show her her own reflection, she bangs her beak against the mirror kind of like she's knocking on a door but is using her beak on the mirror. I think it is a aggressive/protective type of behavior.
I've got another conure who, when I hold her on my hand with my palm facing upward (she's on my thumb) with my fingers slightly curved upward, will rub her head on my index finger/fingernail. It is kind of like she's scritching herself.
I'm not sure I know what you mean by pecking motion. Does the bird seem to be opening its beak as if it is pretending to grab an invisible seed or something? Is it pinching your skin in a non-painful way? Is it doing the head bang thing that my conure (above) does with the mirror? It may just be after you to give it a little rub, or perhaps it is just trying to get your attention. Kind of like how we'd tap someone's arm to get their attention if we were sitting/standing there just waiting to be acknowledged.
If those clothes pins are the ones with the metal part that enables the wood pieces to pinch shut, then you probably have the clothes pins with the zinc. The metal springs will look like there is a white powder on them. Don't let your bird play with those. However, if you have the type of clothes pin that is just 100% wood then you're probably fine. Wooden spoons from the dollar store can work well too for toys. They're easy to hold (foot toys), plus you can put a small smear of natural peanut butter and sprinkle it with seeds/pellets for an extra fun experience.
My nandays favorite toys seem to be her metal chains and her tiny rubber "nobbly wobbly" balls.
You can also hide treats in small bits of paper and leave them on the cage floor or inside food cups for your bird to find. We've got a little toy shelf in our nandays cage and she likes to keep her "special findings" up there until she is ready for them.
I hope some of this is helpful.
