Message:Hi everyone!
I just wanted to let you know that in all the literature that I have read about birds that especially for a nanday screeching is very common.  They are for the most part just loud birds.
What is your reaction when he screeches?  Do you go back to him?
If you are out of the room and he screeches it probably means that he just wants you in the wild they call out to their mate when they are not within their view.  It just means that he is bonded with you.
Don't do like the neighbor and cover the cage or turn the light off.  I never do that to my birds that does not address the real problem.  Don't shhhh your bird instead say things like "You're Okay" shhh sounds like a snake hiss and can actually frighten your bird more.
The bird probably made alot of noise with visitors either because he was happy to see them and wanted their attention or he was bonded to her and in the wild they will call to their mate when others are around to let other people know "hey that is my mate".
I would definitely tell you to get a book called "The Complete Idiots Guide to Bird Care and Bird Training"  It is just a wonderful book with alot of very helpful information.  I reference it quite frequently.
Love the site!
