Speaking of names, I have a Ruby & Jade pair. I named Ruby, for the red on his head, but Jade was already named when I got her. I was searching for a mate for Ruby, and this was a very neat coincidence. They are the soon-to-be parents! I like your idea, with the gem names. I did some searching, and decided to continue the theme. I'll name my two babies Peri and Bix, short for Peridot (green volcanic gem) and Bixbite (a rare red beryl).
Here's a few more: Jasper, Beryl, Topaz, Rubellite, Garnet, Spinel, Carnelian, Zircon, Opal, Agate, Pyrope, Melanite. All of these come in Nanday colors, I think.
